London Life

London is one of the most vibrant, diverse and historic cities in the world. You can enjoy a vast range of experiences, from the buzz of life in the centre, to our close‑knit community in the South East of the city.
Bursting with energy, the multicultural city of London is a focal point in the UK for culture, creativity, and business. Whatever you want to do, see or try, you can find it here.
London’s venues host an ever-changing array of events, from the traditional to the avant-garde. West End theatres, iconic concert halls and renowned dance venues are just a short train ride away from our sites. Immersing yourself in the capital’s cultural events doesn’t have to break the bank – many venues offer free entry or reduced prices for students.
London is also the ideal place to get your career started. Many of the world’s leading artists, ensembles, agents and publishers are based here, giving you the opportunity to make those all-important industry connections.
I love London – there’s always something happening. It’s so huge and all the areas are different from one another. It’s a great place for you to network.

South East London

We are based in South East London, a bright, lively and welcoming student area. From the historic grandeur of Royal Greenwich to the cutting-edge culture of Deptford and New Cross, our local area has something for everyone.
Deptford is home to an enormous mix of cultures and boasts one of the liveliest street markets in the city. At New Cross, you can enjoy panoramic views of the city skyline at Telegraph Hill park, or explore its cosy cafes, trendy bars, and eclectic pop-up events. Meanwhile, top Greenwich highlights include the world food stalls at the indoor market, Greenwich Park (one of South East London’s largest green spaces) and the Meridian Line at the Royal Observatory. Greenwich also plays host to lots of exciting festivals – from comedy to book fairs, there’s always something going on.
If you’re new to London, Time Out has lots of guides on places worth visiting and events taking place across the city. Be sure to follow us on socials too to stay up to date with what’s happening at Trinity Laban.

Getting Around
Trinity Laban’s teaching sites are in zones 2-3 – only 15/20 minutes from central London via public transport.
For travelling around the city, many students find Transport for London (TFL) services easy and convenient. TFL services include tube, DLR, Overground, rail and bus routes. Popular apps to help you plan your journey include Citymapper and London Bus Checker.
If you are over the age of 18 we recommend that you apply for a Student Oyster Card, which gives eligible students 30% off travel within London.
Shops & Services
Our buildings are all located near a wide range of shops, including supermarkets, food markets and even an IKEA for those new room purchases! Our Student Union usually organise an IKEA shopping trip during Welcome Week to help you get everything you need to feel settled in your accommodation. There are pharmacies, book shops, plenty of coffee shops and a whole range of retailers available in Greenwich, Deptford & New Cross, as well as all the major brands & stores in Central London and at shopping malls within close distance to our campus.
Your Safety
Generally speaking, Greenwich, Deptford and New Cross are considered safe areas. However, you should always be aware of your surroundings – especially at night. Here are some tips to follow when going about day-to-day life:
- Travel in groups or take a licensed taxi when travelling at night, or at the very least stick to well-lit roads
- Don’t drink too much alcohol as this can cause you to lose awareness of your surroundings
- Don’t get distracted by technology (e.g. your mobile phone) for long periods of time when out and about. Watch out for cyclists who snatch phones when you are walking and distracted
- Keep your valuables hidden
- In the rare event you are pressured to part with your belongings, be prepared to part with them rather than risk injury (just make sure they are insured)
- Try to use ATMs in daylight
- Don’t display large amounts of cash when making purchases
- Don’t keep your wallet and your phone in your back pocket
- When carrying a bag, place the strap over your head (if it is long enough) and wear it across your body
If you are in Greenwich, there are 24-hour security personnel at the east and west gates of the Old Royal Naval College, home to our Music building
If you are a music student looking for insurance for any valuable instruments, we recommend Allianz Insurance.
