Course details
Musical Theatre Summer School is open to aspiring performers (aged 16+) who want to experience the training on offer at Trinity Laban’s esteemed Musical Theatre Department. Work with West End professionals exploring dance, acting and singing, and take part in valuable audition masterclasses and stimulating workshops.
The 6-day Summer School is taught by industry professionals who guide you through a week of training in acting, singing and dancing. Throughout the week, you’ll have access to our award-winning facilities and get a real taste of theatrical training at degree level.
You’ll take a trip to the West End to see everything you’ve learnt encapsulated in a professional show. At the end of the course, you’ll take part in an informal performance giving you the opportunity to showcase creative elements from your training week. You’ll also receive a certificate of completion.
You can add something extra special and book consultation sessions in either singing or acting (subject to an additional fee). These one-to-one sessions are an excellent way to focus on a particular aspect of your individual development.
There is no audition to take part in Musical Theatre Summer School but participants should have some experience in at least one area of acting, dancing or singing. It is perfect for those considering further study, a career in musical theatre performance, or those who would like to attend the Summer School as a way of refreshing or enhancing their skills.

Theatre trip information
A visit to a West End show is included in the summer school. Previous visits have included: We Will Rock You, Back To The Future Musical and Six The Musical.

International Participants
All Trinity Laban Summer Schools welcome participants from all over the world. We ask that participants have a good standard of spoken English, as classes are conducted entirely in English and no translators will be available. International participants are responsible for making their own visa arrangements. Any flight or accommodation bookings made before and after the fees are paid are made at your own risk, and Trinity Laban will not be liable for any losses you incur in the unlikely event that the Summer School is cancelled.
Accessibility
The Laban Building is fully accessible. If you have any medical or access needs, it is helpful if you discuss them with us before taking part in the course or let us know in our online form when booking your place. We may then contact you for further information and implement reasonable adjustments as required.
Participants Under 18
Trinity Laban has a child protection policy to ensure the safety of all children and young people we come into contact with. Under 18s will have a specific staff contact during the Summer School, and a team member will stay onsite at the accommodation. However please note that Trinity Laban is not and does not accept responsibility as ‘in loco parentis’ i.e. it is not in the same position as a parent and does not accept that level of responsibility for participants.

Fees
Musical Theatre Summer School will go on sale in February 2025, with more detailed information about the timetable available at that time. Sign up to our Summer School Mailing List to be the first to hear.
Places are limited, so early booking is advised.
Meals are not included in the Summer School fees but can be purchased at the Laban Café or other nearby establishments. Participants can bring their own food to the building too.
You can pay the fee in full or in two instalments (deposit at point of booking, balance due 30 June 2025).

Accommodation Fees
7 nights at McMillan Student Village:
Full Fee: £385
Deposit: £200 (£185 balance due 30 June 2025)

Accommodation
Accommodation bookings are optional.
The accommodation booking is for 7 nights in total, Sunday 27 July – Sunday 3 August. Supported check in is from 15.00 -17.00 on the Sunday before the course starts. Checkout is before 10.00 on the Sunday after the course finishes.
The accommodation is located in the McMillan Student Village just a 5-minute walk away from the Laban Building. All rooms are single occupancy only, although you may request a room next to a friend also taking the course. Please email us with your request once you and your friend/s have made your bookings for the course and accommodation.
A member of the Summer School team will be staying onsite at the accommodation for the duration of the course. They are there to support the safety and wellbeing of all participants in the evenings and overnight at the accommodation, but they are not acting in loco parentis. Students are encouraged to go to the Summer School team in the accommodation with any concerns, at any time.
What is included in the accommodation?
- The accommodation comprises of a single room with a bed, wardrobe and study desk. Each room has ensuite facilities, including a shower, toilet and sink.
- Each room is on a corridor with the shared use of a fully fitted kitchen with fridge, oven, and microwave. The accommodation is self-catering; food is not included.
- Bedding, towels and kitchen utensils are provided. You may wish to bring an extra towel to use in the showers at the Laban Building.
Can the students stay additional nights, before the course starts or after it ends?
We cannot accommodate any changes to the accommodation booking through Trinity Laban. Participants will need to contact McMillan Student Village directly about additional nights, but please be aware that this may not be possible. The McMillan Student Village have a lot of group bookings during the Summer months and availability will be limited.

Class Descriptions
Group teaching is key to the ethos of the Musical Theatre Summer School. Usually there are up to 30 people in a class.
Dance – Explores a range of styles and learn routines from West Ends Shows
Hip hop – Explores more commercial dance forms
Acting – Explores the skills and techniques needed for acting in Musical Theatre
Acting for Audition – Explores monologues and audition techniques
Musical Theatre – Combines singing, acting and dancing to produce group numbers from musicals.
Singing for Audition – Explores singing technique and audition techniques
Guest Workshops – Guests currently performing in the West End deliver a class linked with West End performance visit.
Optional 1-1 Lessons (30 mins or 1 hour) – available in both singing and acting.
Informal Sharing – A chance to share some of the exciting work you have created during the week.
