Course details
Introduction
Where will you lead the music industry? Our three-year undergraduate degree in Music Performance and Industry is designed to give you the tools you need to define your artistic voice and use it to shape the contemporary music landscape. Whether you’re a singer-songwriter, hip-hop producer, electronic artist, folk musician, or sit outside the box, we provide a place for learning and self-expression which will set you up for your professional life.
Key Features
The BA (Hons) Music Performance and Industry will enable you to develop your artistry and the knowledge essential for forging a sustainable career in the popular music industry.
You will be immersed in collaborative music-making and production, in an environment that celebrates difference and where you will not be bound by genre. Learning from esteemed industry professionals, with one-to-one tuition and group classes, and collaborating with students from across Trinity Laban, you will define your distinct creative voice.
Alongside skills in performance, production and songwriting, you will develop a forward-thinking and socially engaged approach to your work. This will in turn enable you to situate your music within contemporary contexts.
Business skills are key for connecting your music with audiences and monetising your work. You will cover copyright, publishing, licensing and identifying your audience, and gain experience marketing and releasing your music.

Detailed Information
Each year you’ll undertake four core modules:
Performance and Production
This module will develop your performance skills. This will consist of band projects covering repertoire and original music making. You’ll also learn about stagecraft, studio and digital music production and learn from external professionals in our industry masterclasses. You will also receive one-to-one tuition.
Industry Insights
You will learn about the role of music in society and the changing landscape of the music industry, enabling you to make the most from your music. Topics range from the business side – such as copyright, publishing, licensing and identifying your audience – to broader discussions on how your music fits in the cultural, societal, commercial and political landscape.
Craft and Creativity
You will develop your musicianship through practical group classes in rhythm, harmony, arranging, aural and listening skills. You will apply what you have learned in the song-writing modules and will develop your skills in lyric writing, song construction and musical direction.
Collaborations
Each spring, you will take part in CoLab; a two-week festival where you will come together with students and staff from across the conservatoire, and visiting artists from around the world, to create works rooted in imagination and experimentation.
Here you can take risks in a creative environment which prioritises process, enabling you to push the boundaries of your artform.
You can propose projects or get involved with those put forward by students and/or staff. There is an extensive and eclectic range of projects to be a part of, including interdisciplinary work with dance, art and theatre, an array of musical styles, and the opportunity to work with our partner organisations.
Additionally, you will work alongside BMus students in modules including the Artist as Citizen, the Artist as Educator, Professional Placement, and have the option to take a BMus elective.
Entry Requirements
We are looking for people who show talent and originality in performance and production, who can apply technique and a display a desire to learn.
